5 Refreshing Summer Drinks

To get in the spirit of summer, I love relishing these healthy and yummy summer drinks. They are loaded with nutrients to flush body toxins away and makes me feel energetic. A chef’s kitchen is far too hot and tempers flare in this season. These refreshments are handy to soothe our mind. Best way to beat the summer blues for those who sweat it out in the kitchen, and brave the sweltering heat outside. Of these, avocado banana smoothie and orange iced tea is our  favourite. Virgin Mojito is the easiest to prepare, and costs you not even a fraction of what you are charged at restaurants.

Try these ways to have a healthy and cool summer

  • Go bananas

Method:

In a blender, combine avocado, bananas & yogurt. Puree until smooth. Add the remaining ingredients, and continue to blend until smooth. Serve in a cold mug or glass. Top it up with ice & mint.

  • Mellow Melons

Method: Grind the watermelon & ginger pieces in a slow juicer. A slow juicer churns out the entire juice from fruits without affecting the nutrients. Add remaining ingredients and serve.

Health Benefit: Watermelon can help combat the formation of free radicals known to cause cancer. Ginger can treat many forms of nausea.

  • Magical Mix Drink

Method:

Mix lime juice, water, sugar, black salt, mint leaves, ginger and honey in a pitcher . Stir until sugar is dissolved. Chill in refrigerator.

Health Benefit: This drink hydrates and cleanses the digestive system

  • America’s Healing Elixir-Orange

Method: Cook sugar and tea in 1.4 liters hot water. Add mint to the pot and cool for 10 mins. Then strain and allow it to cool for more time. Pour into a jar, add orange juice and stir. Serve with orange slices, mint and plenty of ice.

  • The Cuban Classic

Method:

Put 6 mint leaves and 4 teaspoons sugar into glass jar tumbler; vigorously stir sugar and mint together, crushing mint with the back of a spoon to release oils. Pour it in 3 glasses and add 2 lime wedges in each glass; again stir vigorously to release some lime juice. Fill glasses with ice cubes and top with carbonated water and stir.

Health Benefit: Mint is a great palate cleanser and lemon has anti bacterial properties, excellent for immune system.
